Late last month we tucked the KSW truck away for the winter, and just in the nick of time. A switch has flipped – Chatham-Kent looks positively wintry! It’s getting us all in the mood for this weekend’s Chatham Armoury Christmas Market. Local makers and vendors, including Knit Sew Well, will be offering gifts, décor, and delicious seasonal treats in a festive marketplace set up in the historic armoury.

The market hours are Friday, 5 to 8 PM,
Saturday and Sunday, 9 AM to 2 PM.
You’ll also be able to take in a vibrant display of Love Wish Christmas Trees, beautifully decorated by local businesses to support the Children’s Treatment Centre.

The Chatham Armoury is at 44 William St. N. in Chatham.

We’ve found unique notions, tools, patterns, and yarn to bring to the market, including these adorable stitch markers from Fox & Pine Stitches. Tara is a maker who creates eye-catching, useful notions in her studio in PEI. Who can resist these adorable Fair Isle-themed stitch markers? And the row counter is just an easy way to keep track of your progress. Slick!

On the other coast, Firefly Notes creates unique notions and storage tins in a studio in Steveston B.C. The crow-themed notions tin and markers is a must-have. In Chatham-Kent, we know all about crows!

If there’s one small stocking stuffer that will bring a smile to the knitter in your life (or yourself) it’s this adorable limited-edition Tiny Tree Tin and stitch marker.

There’s been increased interest lately in working with Double Pointed Needles, and a little shout-out to those who attended the recent ‘Socks on DPNs’ workshop at Artisan Vibes in Chatham. There’s a good selection of Cubix DPNs at KSW online, which are always a good option. However, if you’re looking for a set, we now carry the Dreamz Double Pointed Needle Sets. These needles are crafted from polished birchwood in bright and happy colours. The smooth surface and precise tips are preferred for sock knitting and other round projects, such as sleeves and hats. The Starter set features five DPN sizes, and the Deluxe set has nine DPN sizes. Both sets are packaged in a handy fabric case. Awesome for gifting!

I have been looking for some time for a premium yarn that would be ideal for one-skein projects like cosy hats and shawls. When I found Wild Woollys, an artisan dye studio on Vancouver Island, I knew I had to have their yarn. All their bases are ethically-sourced Australian, New Zealand and Peruvian Merino Wool. These are premium merino wool yarns that are soft enough for close-to-skin projects. The yarn is dyed in small batches, using eco-friendly techniques. The colours are vibrant and true, and the yarn twist offers great stitch definition. Alyse Jackson, the creator of Wild Woollys Artisan Hand-Dyed Yarns, has come up with unique and inspiring colourways, including ‘Autumn Mocha’ , ‘Winter Aurora’, and ‘Woodland Christmas.’ Cast on something beautiful today!

A few weeks ago we received an order of quilt patterns from Patch + Dot, and wow, these are fun! Designed and printed in Canada, these patterns are a modern take on classic quilt motifs. They span quilting experience, from ‘newby’ to ‘expert’, and can be used to finish a baby quilt to a king-sized bed quilt. We have a good selection of Kona Cotton Solids that will work well with these patterns, as well as Essex Yarn Dyed and Worker Chambray. Let us help you pick the perfect fabric for your next Patch + Dot project.
