Coming on the heels of our successful Let’s Talk About Socks (couldn’t resist!) is our All About the Afterthought Heel workshop. This workshop is designed for those who already know the basics of knitting socks and want to expand their repertoire. To get the most out of this workshop, you should have at least one tube sock completely knit up. It can be toe-up or cuff-down, and for ease of picking up the heel stitches it should be knit in a non-variegated yarn. Please also bring a circular needle in the size that you knit the sock, with a long enough cord to work the heel in magic loop, or two circular needles if you prefer that method of sock knitting. The heel can also be worked with DPNs, but you will still need a circular needle to pick up and hold the heel stitches.
It will also be helpful to check out this pattern for toe-up sock with an afterthought heel:

This pattern uses waste yarn that is removed once the heel stitches are picked up. I will also be showing a method that does not use waste yarn. Be warned, it involves cutting into the tube sock!
